The professor enters\nanother series of codes into the wall keypad near the control room door and the\nlarge windowless steel overhead door leading to the outdoor compound begins to\nrise letting the fresh air of a spring afternoon filter into the lab. \u201cA\nbeautiful day for flying Superman,\u201d laughs the professor as he and Superman\nwalk towards the open overhead door. <\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u201cIt\ncertainly is professor,\u201d agrees Superman. \u201cAre you all set for your big trip?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">They\nstop before the open overhead door facing the lab\u2019s parking lot within the\nfenced in compound and the professor responds, \u201cSure am Superman! I\u2019m looking\nforward to being away from all this for a few weeks; the work has been grueling\nand the Army won\u2019t be ready to test for a month or more. Eden has offered to\nremain here alone and make the final adjustments to the computer\u2019s radiation\nprojection sequence model. He\u2019s a real computers wiz so I can enjoy some time\noff exploring China with a few old colleagues of mine. I don\u2019t know what I\u2019d do\nwithout Eden. I even offered to postpone the trip until after we finished the\nfirst test phase for the Army so Eden could go too. But Eden was adamant that I\ngo as scheduled. I suppose I\u2019d just be in the way during this phase \u2013 it\u2019s all\ncomputer mumbo-jumbo. If you don\u2019t mind I\u2019ll leave Eden the procedure to\ncontact you; he\u2019s been with me for years and I trust him with everything except\nthe secret of kryptonite,\u201d says the professor as he looks around. \u201cHe\u2019s\ntrustworthy but the thing is he\u2019s only 23 and I\u2019d feel better if he had you to\nfall back on in a pinch with me away and all.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u201cCertainly;\nhave Eden contact me if he needs anything,\u201d offers Superman. \u201cHave you read the\npapers and seen the cable news this week?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u201cYes;\ndespicable what the news editor\u2019s will print and put on TV to sell papers and\nboost their ratings! The thug they call the Teflon Boss has the audacity to put\nup a bounty of 20 million dollars for the capture of Superman &#8211; dead or alive!\nWhat gall! He wants you defeated and broken to inspire another generation of\ncriminals. Bravado; he\u2019s knows you can\u2019t be subdued or destroyed by any means\nhis thugs and bully\u2019s can devise!\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u201cI\u2019m\nsure a lot of other crime bosses nationwide contributed to the pot to destroy\nme,\u201d states Superman grimly.<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u201cA\nfew rotten apples; they\u2019re all daft,\u201d responds the professor<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u201cEvan\nFrost is pretty smart. He\u2019s never been convicted. No charges ever stick \u2013 he\u2019s\nlike Teflon. I know I\u2019ve put the lid on most of his criminal activities cutting\ndeep into his profits. But, I think the bounty has more to do with the fact\nthat he\u2019s learned I\u2019ve been asked to help the FBI build a case against him.\nThat makes him desperate which means he\u2019ll do anything to be rid of me. Now you\nknow why I don\u2019t visit you more often professor? Our friendship must remain a\nsecret for your personal safety. Eden knows our acquaintance must remain\nconfidential? <\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Eden\nhas been with me for nearly six years; he\u2019s given me his word that what happens\nin the lab remains confidential. I trust him completely except with the\nknowledge of the small particles of kryptonite you gave me to study. That is\nwhy after I finish my first phase of testing for the Army I am giving Eden\nseveral weeks\u2019 vacation. Then I am free to use my radiation well to analysis\nand study kryptonite. My attempts thus far to chart kryptonite\u2019s atomic\nstructure have been unsuccessful. The radiation well with its DLP and computers\nwill enable me to chart the atomic structure of kryptonite and most likely\nprovide a means to neutralize its toxic effects on you. That is the real reason\nI took this grant to build the radiation well in the first place \u2013 to study\nkryptonite. Who knows how much kryptonite is lying around in museums,\nlaboratories, or rock collections unnoticed? It\u2019s a matter of time before some\nscientist with bad intentions puts two and two together and comes up with four.\nAn antidote must be developed to neutralize kryptonite\u2019s toxic effects on you.\nEden has already completed the computer models needed to do the study; he\nthinks it\u2019s an exercise for a bogus element \u2013 a computer exercise to build an\nelemental model for the radiation well.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u201cI\ntrust your judgment professor in regards to Eden; I appreciate the tremendous\namount of time and effort you\u2019ve devoted to fill the chink in my armor. Besides the tiny\nparticles of kryptonite you gave me to study are not of sufficient size to do\nany harm to you. You have the larger fragments that are lethal to you hidden\nsafely away encased in lead.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u201cI\nguess your right professor,\u201d concedes Superman. \u201cI don\u2019t know who else I could\nhave turned to for help. Well\u2026I\u2019ve got to be on my way; thank-you again for\neverything. Enjoy your trip! I\u2019ll stop back in a few weeks when you\u2019ve returned\nto hear all about it.\u201d The men shake hands and with the farewells exchanged\nSuperman blurs and streaks out the open overhead door and rockets up into the\nblue sky and out of sight in a matter of seconds.<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">*********************************************************************************<\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">As\nEden watches Superman streak out of the lab on the HD screen in the control\nroom he switches the monitor back to his computer encryption work and asks\nhimself, \u201c\u2026kryptonite?
