and is a longtime trusted friend\nof Superman. \u201cThe highly reflective floor you\u2019re standing on is made of a\nrevolutionary steel alloy. At the end of the well next to\nthe passageway to the escape shaft, opposite the large lead junction box, is a\nnumeric keypad mounted on the lead paneled wall at eyelevel.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cLooks like you\u2019ve been very busy professor the last few\nmonths,\u201d says Superman cheerfully as he turns and faces the professor.\nSuperman, the Man of Steel is almost 28. He stands 6\u2019 4\u201d, and weighs 225 lbs.\nHis chiseled good looks, black hair with a distinctive split curl, bright blue\neyes and clear voice made him a striking figure. Superman wears his traditional\nroyal blue bodysuit with red trucks, a yellow leather belt adored with a\ndiamond studded belt buckle, dark red leather boots, and a crimson red leather\ncape. Anyway\nSuperman the Army wants me to test a new encounter suit they want to field in a\nfew years. The Army wants me to do an independent test as they are suspect of\nthe results submitted by the contractor that developed the suit,\u201d explains the\nprofessor. \u201cThey want me to project radiation at their encounter suit using\nthis Radiation Well we are standing in. Of course the suit will be empty; it\nwill just contain radiation sensors that can be monitored as I bombard the suit\nwith radiation. The key to the radiation well is the DLP within the large lead\njunction box,\u201d \u201cHere let me show you.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Superman follows the professor to the passageway leading to\nescape shaft and observes as the professor stands before a keypad mounted on\nthe lead lined wall of the well. The professor keys in a sequence of numbers\nand the cover of lead lined junction box mounted on the opposite side of the\npassageway wall springs opens and comes to rest slightly a jar. A slight bloom\nof compressed air vents from the large lead junction box as the professor opens\nthe cover completely. The lead box is chucked full of numerous small computer\nhard drives with red and blue flashing lights and a chrome board with several\ntoggle switches. There are several glass circuit boards lodged in a strange\nmother board of some type; there are a couple of removal flash drives plugged\ninto another computer board that blink green in rapid succession and a strange\ntall glass cylinder that sets on top of a small projector pad. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cThis is the DLP, or Digital Light Projector; notice the glass\ncylinder on that sits on top of the DLP; it amplifies whatever is in the glass\ncylinder. To put it simply I place a small fragment, even a very small particle,\nof any radioactive element within the glass cylinder. My radiation well, using\nthe computers in the control room above, the DLP and the eight elemental\nprojectors you see above, amplifies and projects the radiation given off by the\nelement; the well is capable of amplifying an elements radiation 1000 fold.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cRemarkable, so even the smallest partial of an element can\nused in this application; no need to transport large quantities of a dangerous\nelement,\u201d notes Superman as he turns away from lead junction box and walks\ndeeper into the well dragging his fingers lightly over the smooth lead panels\nthat line the narrow well. Superman walks slowly to the very end of the narrow\nwell with his red and blue reflection from the floor following him. Superman\nstops before the lead wall at the far end of well and then turns180 degrees and\ncranes his head upwards past the strange array of glass disks at several round\nventilation ducts with diffusers that run the length of the trench. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The professor turns and follows Superman as he says, \u201cBut here\nis what is really remarkable. The radiation well not only projects radiation\nbut the computers analysis the elements atomic structure. It also generates a\ndigital blueprint of sorts of any element\u2019s atomic structure that can be stored\nand studied. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Superman looks at the professor optimistically.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cI thought that would spike your interest Superman. It\u2019s what\nI\u2019ve needed for years to begin my work for you in earnest,\u201d says the professor\nhappily.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cSo there is light at the end of my dark tunnel?\u201d asks\nSuperman?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cYou bet,\u201d answers the professor. \u201cNASA has radioactive space\nrocks they have retrieved with the space shuttle. They want me to map their\natomic structure; it will be a good cover when I start work on the particles you\nleant me.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Superman looks at the professor questioningly and asks, \u201cWhat\nkind of space rocks?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cDon\u2019t worry Superman; I\u2019ve seen color photographs and the\nfragments are not green,\u201d reassures the professor.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cThat\u2019s a relief. The ducts above the glass disks are used to\nchange the air over in the well,\u201d asks the Man of Steel?<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cYes. Once the radiation levels are normal the air within the\nwell is exchanged with fresh air using the two large air tanks in the lab\nabove. Not much more to see down here Superman.
