<\/span>Clark froze in place, not nowing\nwhat was happening.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>For what seemed an\neternity they were locked together, flesh to flesh, soul to soul.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Clark didn&#8217;t know where he ended and Drake\nbegan, like conjoined twins with a single heart.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Drake&#8217;s lips were plush and wet.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>His tongue a wild, thrashing beast locked in\ncombat with his own.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Then, as suddenly\nas it began Drake broke away, leaving Clark wide-eyed and gasping for air,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Standard\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cSee?<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>He grinned broadly.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I told you.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>A little distraction and I got what I wanted.\u201d he said trumphantly\nraiging his arm. Both of their eyes went to the syringe in his hand.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>It should have been empty after being jabbed\ninto Clark&#8217;s arm, directly into the vein.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>Instead the needle was bent into a corkscrew, leaking the anesthetic.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Standard\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cImpossible, I couldn&#8217;t have missed.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>Yet I must have jammed it against the steel rim of the chair\ninstead.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I&#8217;m sorry, I shouldn&#8217;t have\ntried to trick you like that.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>You must\nthink I&#8217;m some sort of bungling, incompetent quack.\u201d Drake said, bewildred and\ncrestfallen.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Standard\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cI\ncan&#8217;t do that in good conscience, Clark.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>I suspect you may have some underlying condition that could prove\ninsidious if not found out in time.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I\nwouldn&#8217;t want those good looks being spoiled if you ended up loosing some\nteeeth just because I put you off seeing a dentist again.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Standard\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>Clark squirmed in his seat, furious at himself with Drake&#8217;s intrangiance\nand his own inability to take control of the situation.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Superman would know what to do, he thought to\nhimself.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>But as Clark he was hobbled by\nhis own self-definition of a submissive milktoast.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Standard\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>Denton once more turned on his heel and returned momentarily with\nanother instrument.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>A gas tank affixed\nto a rolling cart, with tubes and a plastic mask.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Clark didn&#8217;t need x-ray vision to tell it\nwasn&#8217;t simply oxygen it contained.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Standard\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cEver been put under with Laughing Gas?\u201d he asked.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cN;;No..I&#8217;ve never,,,I never laughed..I mean\nhad a laugh..I&#8212;\u201d Clark was totally tongue-tied and lost.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Standard\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cWell don&#8217;t worry.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>It&#8217;s quite\nsafe.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I use it on all my patients at\nsome point.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>You&#8217;d be surprised how many\nof the big burly jocks I treat are scared of needles and faint at the thought\nof a drill.\u201d Drake briskly fixed the straps over Clark&#8217;s head and then pressed\nthe mask firmly over his mouth and nose, muffling his weak objections.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Standard\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>Drake slowly turned the valve.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>Clark both felt and tasted the rush of gas into his lungs.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>There was nothing to do but play along.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>He could easily pretend to be asleep and\nsimply bear with the indignity of Drake poking around in his mouth.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>He had already forgotten exactly what he intended\nto do while he was under.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>And so Clark\neased his tense muscles and relaxed into the chair.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>He hadn&#8217;t noticed before but it was easily\nthe most comfortable chair he&#8217;d ever been in.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>It was almost like when he was soaring through the sky.
