stared at the memo the\nmailroom boy had dropped unceremiously on his desk as he was preoccupied doing\nthe final draft of his article on the latest City proposal for the Dockside\nproperty development.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>While keeping his\nouter composure his heart skipped a beat.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>He feared these little complications most of all.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Fight a ten-story high killer robot?<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Yawn!<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>Plug an erupting volcano with a gigantic battleship slated for the\nscrapyard?<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Don&#8217;t you have anything hard\nfor him to do?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>But\nthese things came as close to driving a wedge of fear into his self confidence\nto deal with any crisis as he&#8217;d ever known.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>He stared down at the memo again.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>The bean-counters in the Human Resources Dept. had determined in their\ninfinite wisdom he was overdue to get his annual dental check-up to satisfy the\ngroup insurance dictates for all Daily Planet employees.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>He&#8217;d\nbeen clever enough to dodge this bullet in the past, managing to be away on\nassignment during the re-enrollment period.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>But someone had spotted the fact Clark hadn&#8217;t complied in nearly six\nyears.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">It had been that long since Doc. Brown, his\nfamily doctor from Smallville, had passed on.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>When he was just a child entering school and was faced with having to\nshow proof to the school he&#8217;d had all his requisite shots and regular medical\ncheckups he&#8217;d forged a plan to get around it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>Feigning a panic attack due to phobia about doctors when Ma Kent took\nhim into his office that first time he played on the kindly physicians&#8217; good\nnature.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>As long as Clark promised to\ntake care of himself and followed a health regimen he drew up, he&#8217;d sign\nwhatever waiver Clark needed.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>It was a\nquiet conspiracy between the good doctor and the Kents that went back to them\nfinding him in that cornfield.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>They told\nthe doctor just enough to let him think he&#8217;d been abandoned by an unwed mother\nand they wished to adopt him as their own without anyone knowing he wasn&#8217;t theirs.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Doc. Brown faked records showing him making\nthe delivery at the farm and signing the birth certificate.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Ever since then he could always rely on him\nto provide whatever Clark needed to appear to be a regular visitor to whatever\nmedical specialist the family doctor had to pose as.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>But\nwith his reliable accomplice in deception gone Clark floundered to deal with\npetty roadblocks like this in maintaining his dual identity.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>It wasn&#8217;t the fear of being caught in a lie\nor slipping up and referring to something only Superman should know (or vice\nversa).<span>&nbsp; <\/span>He&#8217;d compartmentalized his two\nseperate personae so well over the years Clark actually thought like the timid,\nclumsy bumpkin he had posed as since childhood.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>It was allowing a medical professional from doing anything more than\nsimply taking his temperature or blood pressure.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>These he could fake, using his extraordinary\nwillpower and bodily control in slowing his powerful heartrate and even\nadjusting his metabolism to mimic a normal earthling.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>But beyond that it wouldn&#8217;t take much to set\noff alarm bells.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Needles would shatter\non his skin.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>X-rays wouldn&#8217;t penetrate\neither.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>He could fool a simple weight\nscale by simply using his flight power.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>It was something he&#8217;d been doing instinctively since he was a\ntoddler.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>His cellular structure was so\ndense he would normally tip the scale at several hundred pounds.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>But at the lowest exertion of his flight\npower he partially negated his weight that would otherwise cause chairs to\ncollapse beneath him.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>So ingrained was\nthis practice he maintained this equillibrium even when asleep (which he rarely\ndid and usually just to relax his mind after a particularly harrowing series of\nrescues).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>However, this wouldn&#8217;t fool a basometric examination, wherin he&#8217;d be\nlowered into a tub of water and have the ratio of his fat-to-muscle content\nmeasured.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Superman was, quite simply,\nall muscle.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>His metabolism ran on\nconverting sunlight into kinetic energy.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>He needed no fats to convert to fuel his thick, powerful muscles.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>It\nwas when faced with the need to show proof of having undergone these types of\nexaminations that old Doc. Brown had proved invaluable.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Now that he was gone hed have to face the\nmusic.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Forging his own records was easy enough,\nbut if anyone thought to check back with the medical office listed he&#8217;d be\nbusted.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>Clark finally determined to go through with it.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>After all, it was just a cleaning and a\ncheckup.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>He had perfect teeth, after\nall.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>A cursory examination should be\nenough to convince any competent dentist no closer examination was needed to\ndeclare him in perfect dental health.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>The only thing that worried him is he knew most dentists taking on a new\npatient would run a series of x-rays just to establish a baseline to check\nagainst any changes due to disease that may appear later.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>But\nhe&#8217;d thought of an elegant solution to that as well.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>If he could get an emergency referral from a\ntrusted patient for a cursory examination to meet an insurance deadline, with\nthe understanding his regular dentist was on vacation, the dentist would no\ndoubt forego the usual full initial examination routine.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The trick was to get someone who didn&#8217;t want\nto impress him with his thoroughness to get him to switch practices.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Someone he knew had a long waiting list for\nhis services and wasn&#8217;t taking on new patients.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>When\nClark had been assigned the Sports Desk during one of his periods of being on\nPerry White&#8217;s s**t kist he&#8217;d met a ruggedly handsome hockey star.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Clark had remarked casually he had a\nsurprisingly perfect smile for a player who had the reputation of not minding\nmixing it up with the most fearsome hockey goons in the league.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The player had told him he&#8217;d had his share of\nteeth knocked out but that he&#8217;d been put on to a wizard of a dental surgeon\nwho&#8217;d been able to re-implant and save every one.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Even one that had been lodged in one goon&#8217;s\nfist after a particulary brutal fight that had left them both in the hospital.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>Clark called the player, who obliged him by making the necessary\narrangements for him to see the dentist after the end of his normal appointments.\nClark checked him out and finds he formerly was a gynecologist who had settled\na case just before changing specialties, so the judgment and the original\ncomplaint were sealed. The fact he gave up his practice and instead took up his\nearlier practice of dentistry made Clark suspicious the case was one for\nmalpractice.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Still, such things were\nalmost a rite of passage in the medical profession.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>And perhaps more so, with apologies to the\nFairer Sex, with nothing but hormonal and possibly hysterical female patients\nto deal with on a constant basis.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The\nfact he retained his medical license and had no record of censure from the\nMedical Board suggested it may have been a minor complaint.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>He decides to go undercover. He enjoyed\ninvestigative reporting under an alias. It meant he can drop his carefully\nconstructed guise as a &#8220;mild mannered reporter&#8221;. No longer was he\nforced to dress shabbily, shuffling along stooped over with hunched shoulders,\nand speaking hesitantly and shyly. He can instead act the part of the manly\nstud he truly is. In fact he decided to play the swaggering lady-killer to the\nhilt, the better to draw his target into his confidence and put him at ease. He\nlearned from his research nearly all of his clients were professional athletes\nlike his friend, so he&#8217;d drop the name of the celebrity jock as his referral,\nimplying he was a teammate.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Such \u201cSports\nCelebrity\u201d doctors weren&#8217;t uncommon, and made it all the more likley he&#8217;d be\nrushed through the office simply to please his sports star contact.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>He surmised, too, that a little manly\nlocker-room bragging may elicit a slip from the good doctor regarding possible\nunprofessional improprieties with his pretty young female patients.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Any small compromising admission may give him\na little leverage should he need the dentist in the future.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>Clark dresses for the role, wearing an\nultra-tight wife-beater that uniformly hugged the bulging muscles of his\nathletic frame, and skin-tight faded jeans that showed off his muscular ass and\nthighs, and strained to contain his very full package.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>After years of craftily hiding his assets\nunder ill-fitting baggy clothes that made him look fat and dumpy he revelled in\nthe sideways glances he got from lady (and not a few men) passerbys in the\nstreet.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>He was used to this as Superman,\nbut for Clark this was unexplored territory to be unabashedly gawked at as\nprime eye candy.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>He enters the expensively appointed\noffice, and is surprised to see he is the only one in the waiting room. He\nunderstood the Dentist&#8217;s practice was an exceptionally thriving one. He scans a\ngallery of photos on the wall and spots a conglomeration of Hall of Famers and\nOlympic athletes, Action star actors and Supermodels. All were male. Only a\nsmall group of anonymous females filled a small corner, all bearing a family\nresemblance. He catches the eye of the deaf looking elderly hygienist at the\nreception desk who tells him &#8220;Dr. Denton&#8221; has an elite set of\ncelebrity clients, and that each is given an exclusive all-day appointment so\nthat no one is inconvenienced by either having to wait in the outer room or\nfeel rushed by a roomful of `impatient patients&#8217; waiting their turn.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>True to her word she ushers Clark\ndirectly into the inner sanctum without the formality of filling out forms and\nshowing proof of insurance (his patients must all be people of some means),\nwhere he is surprised to see Dr. Drake Denton was an impossibly handsome and\nmuscular young man. Nearly as tall as he himself, and only slightly less bulky,\nwith chiseled features, a thick mane of golden hair and a set of piercing blue\neyes like sky emeralds. And a dazzling smile formed of lush full rosy lips and\nthe sort of dazzlingly perfect ivory teeth that was his best advertisement for\nhis specialty. He hardly seemed the sort that needed to resort to unethical\nmeans to get any women into bed. He looked like one of those bodice-ripping\nViking warriors on the cover of a tawdry romance novel.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Clark momentarily startled himself when he\nfound himself picturing the white jacketed dentist barechested with glistening\npecs and massively muscled naked arms and thews.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>Alongside his framed diplomas, for both\nDentistry and, surprisingly, Gynecology as well, were trophies for a plethora\nof bodybuilding and amateur sports championships.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>Clark was beginning to think the\nanonymous plaintiff in the sealed legal case was an insurance hoaxer, even\npossibly from a jilted lover or snubbed patient infatuated with the handsome\nhunk. Clark even absently wondered to himself if Dr. Olson and Superman were offered\nas rival suitors that Lois Lane might not choose Doctor Dreamy over the Man of\nSteel Himself.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>Dr. Drake briskly greets him with a\npowerful handshake and offers him the chair. To his surprise it is not a\ntraditional dentist&#8217;s chair but instead has stirrups on the footrests and\nrestraint straps on the padded arms and the chair-back. With a sudden flash of\nrecognition he realized it was a gynecologist&#8217;s chair, the widely swinging\nhinged leg supports meant for vaginal inspections and the restraints to protect\nwomen caught in the throes of birth pangs from injuring themselves should they\nthrash about hysterically. Or be helplessly bound by her erstwhile healer, he\nthinks suspiciously.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>But once again he is put somewhat at\nease when Drake candidly and casually confesses he has only recently begun\npracticing Dentistry, and was forced during some renovations at his adjoining\ndental practice next door to use his old office and furnishings until he could\nfind and outfit his new office elsewhere. He offered no explanation for the odd\nchange in careers, but betrayed no shame either.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>After all, it made sense he may hold on to\nsome things should he decide to switch back to gynecology.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>The Doctor smiled that dazzling smile\nand cheerfully offered Clark the chair.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Clark\nsettled gingerly into the odd-looking chair with it&#8217;s shiny metal\nstirrups.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Feeling a bit awkward, he\ntried to change the subject by remarking on the pictures in the waiting room.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cUmm, yes, those.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>My clients, all\nexcept the blond ladies. They are family.\u201d he remarked absently.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cOne\nof them your Wife?\u201d Clark asked breezily so as not to seem too inquizative.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cNo,\nmy Mother and my sisters.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I&#8217;m the only\nboy, and I&#8217;m single by the way.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>My dad\nwas a dentist, so that&#8217;s why I got into it and ended up by taking over his\npractice.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cThey are all strikingly beautiful.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>You come from a very handsome family.\u201d Clark almost chocked.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Why had he used that word to describe them\nunless he was thinking of Denton in particular?<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>And to his astonishement the image of that bare-chested Viking crept\nback into his mind.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Only now, to his\nbewilderment, he pictured himself in the embrace of those masculine arms, his\nclothes being ripped from him with those strongs hands. He shook himself and\ntried to go on the offensive again.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cI\ncan&#8217;t help but ask.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I mean, the duel\nmedical degrees on the wall, this chair and your reference to your old\noffice.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>You were a gynecologist at some\npoint?\u201d Clark asked, trying to sound only mildly interested.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cYes, as I said being the only boy I had been pressured by my father to\ntake after him in his choice of professions.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>And so I did.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>But I found general\npractice of dentistry unchallenging, especially as I always exhibited a talent\nfor surgery.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>So I specialized in\ngynecology.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>But eventually I found that\nnot to my liking either.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I found adding\nemergency oral surgery the perfect compromise.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>As pro bono work I work in the hospitals doing reconstructive work on\ncongenital defects, military injuries and massive accident injuries.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>And as some of my cases involved consulting\nwith team doctors on sports injuries I gradually gathered a client base and now\nspecialize in treating amateur and professional athletes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cAnd\nquite a collection it is.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>David Bendham\nthe soccer star, a who&#8217;s who of ball players, Olympic Medalists, MMA and boxing\nchampions.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Even some professional\nwrestlers.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cHmmm, yes.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>My little Band of\nBrothers as I like to call them.\u201d Denton said, flashing a sudden, dazzling\nsmile that washed over Clark like a beam of sunlight.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>He fidgeted uneasily in his chair as he\ndelicately phrased his next question.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cAll uh, Boys? No woman athletes?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cNo.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Not many girls into contact\nsports.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Besides, I find it easier to\ndeal with men only.\u201d Denton said.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cWell yeah, I imagine it must have been hard with all-female patients\nonly.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I mean, they must have been\nundressing you with their eyes all the while they were undressing for the\nexaminations.\u201d Clark blurted out without thinking.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cWhat, why would you think that?\u201d Denton asked, a sudden look of concern\non his face.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Clark felt he&#8217;d pushed too\nfar and fast.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Yet he suddenly found\nhimself saying the wrong thing once again.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cI mean, one look at someone with your amazing looks and beautiful build\nmust make them cream themselves being naked and alone in a room with a golden\nstud like you.\u201d<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Clark was screaming at\nhimself in his head \u201cWhat the hell&#8217;s wrong with you Clark?<span>&nbsp; <\/span>You&#8217;re a goddam reporter!<span>&nbsp; <\/span>What kind of line of questioning is\nthat?\u201d<span>&nbsp; <\/span>He was gushing about Denton&#8217;s sex\nappeal like a cub society writer interviewing a teen idol.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cWell, don&#8217;t believe all those stereotypes about gyneccologists.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Most women are very frightened going through\nan examination.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I always tried to be as\nprofessional as possible to put them at their ease.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>And as far as being alone I always had a\nnurse in the room with us at all times.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;<\/span>\u201cOh,\nof course, I didn&#8217;t mean to suggest&#8230;I mean&#8230;I&#8217;m sure that&#8217;s right&#8230;\u201d Clark\nfound himself stammering and struggling to make sense,<span>&nbsp; <\/span>he was glad when Denton shifted the topic of\nconversation back to himself.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cSo,\nyou are a friend of Brad&#8217;s?<span>&nbsp; <\/span>You don&#8217;t\nlook like a hockey player.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I mean,\nyou&#8217;ve got the size and then some, but at least you seem to have all your\nteeth.\u201d Denton said, that dazzling smile flashing again and making Clark blink\nto look at a man even handsomer than himself blue eye to even bluer eye.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Clark found himself blushing for no\nreason.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Mentioning he had a large frame\nand all his teeth was hardly like his gushing about Denton&#8217;s &#8216;handsome&#8217; &#8216;looks\nand build&#8217; and calling him a &#8216;golden stud&#8217;.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cI&#8217;m\nan Olympic athlete.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Decathlon\u201d he\nblurted out.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>He meant to pose as one of\nBrad&#8217;s teammates, but that remark about having all his teeth threw that out the\nwndow and he had to improvise.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201c\n&#8216;World&#8217;s Greatest Athlete&#8217;, eh?\u201d Denton joked, unleashing that unsettling smile\nagain.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cUh,\nno, not yet at least.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Just on the\nalternate team.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Haven&#8217;t had a chance to\nmedal yet.\u201d Clark said, trying to appear modest.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Why had he said Decathlete?<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Was it because it was the furthest thing from\nwhat he normally posed as, a nerdy clumsy wimp?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cWell, with a build like yours and a little talent that title won&#8217;t\nelude you for long, I&#8217;m sure.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>As you\nnoted I have some of the best athletes in the world, including professional\nbodybuilders.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>You have the best body\nI&#8217;ve ever seen on a man.\u201d Denton said, and this time instead of a disarming\nsmile he looked Clark over from head to toe with a long, pentrating appraisal\nthat made him blush and feel flushed all over at the same time.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cI\num, thanks.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I uh&#8230; work out.\u201d<span>&nbsp; <\/span>he answered, that voice screaming in his head\nagain \u201cMy God! What a lame thing to say. Stop acting like some frustrated\nschool girl.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>You&#8217;re Superman, for\nHeaven&#8217;s sake!<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Why is this guy getting\ninto your head like this? You&#8217;re supposed to be getting into his.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>Clark was relieved when Denton got down to business and began examing\nClark&#8217;s mouth.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cRemarkable!<span>&nbsp; <\/span>You&#8217;ve retained all\nof your baby teeth.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>More unusual still,\nthere is absolutely no sign of decay or even enamel wear.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>And your gums are solid as a rock.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The most perfect set of teeth I&#8217;ve ever seen,\neven in medical books.\u201d Denton praised, again making Clark unexpectedly blush\nfor reasons he couldn&#8217;t fathom.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>He\nsquirmed uneasily in is chair, and his reporter&#8217;s notebook fell out of his\npocket onto the floor.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Denton reached\ndown and picked it up, glancing briefly at the open pages.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cLittle Black Book?<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I&#8217;d think a\nstud like you would need something as thick as the Metropolis phonebook for all\nyour conquests.\u201d Denton joked.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cUhh&#8230;no&#8230;no, actually.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I guess\nI prefer to be around guys mostly, like you.<span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>I mean&#8230;I meant to say&#8230;\u201d The voice wasn&#8217;t screaming in his head\nnow.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>It was shouting obscenities he\ndidn&#8217;t think he knew.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cI\nguess you meant to say you are more of a &#8216;Guy&#8217;s Guy&#8217; rather than a &#8216;Ladies&#8217;\nMan&#8217;.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Isn&#8217;t that right, Denton offered,\ntactfully letting him off the hook.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>\u201cUh&#8230;yeah, I&#8217;m more into guys than&#8230;I mean&#8230;yeah it&#8217;s the Guy\/Guy\nthing for me&#8230;&#8230;\u201d Clark wanted to crawl under the chair.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cNot\nunusual with you athletes.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Everybody\nlooks at those handsome faces and killer bodies and think all those guys do is\ngo through one gal after the next.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Truth\nis, most of them tell me they are closer to their teammates than their\ngirlfriends.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>After all, they didn&#8217;t\nreach their level without a single-minded focus on athletics.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>And most of their time is spent in the\ncompany of men.\u201d Denton turned away to put an instrument down, and added dryly\nover his shoulder. \u201cYou&#8217;d be surprised how many are actually virgins. Or were,\nuntil just recently\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp;\n<\/span>Clark&#8217;s head was spinning.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Where\nwas this going?<span>&nbsp; <\/span>He just wanted to get to\nknow the man he was dealing with, but was swiftly getting in over his\nhead.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Thank God he was putting away the\nmirrors and probes.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The examination\nseemed to be over.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cMay\nI go now?\u201d Clark asked in a surprsingly squeeky voice, like a schooboy asking\nto be excused from the Principal&#8217;s office.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><\/span><p class=\"Textbody\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span>&nbsp; <\/span>\u201cNo,\njust one more thing. I suspect their may be some nerve damage.
