His mind, numbed by the\npain, Superman merely lies face down naked, his body stiffened by the unrelenting\nache of pain. Dumont has taken Superman\u2019s famous red and blue costume as a\ntrophy and Superman is left wearing only a blank expression with drool\ntrickling from the open mouth of his craned head.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">Dumont\ngrins wickedly as he hurries around the vault collecting the man\u2019s discarded\ncostume: leather boots, cape, belt, briefs, and tights. He roughly compresses\nthe costume and boots and shoves the items into the large black canvas bag he\nbrought with him. As Dumont zips the canvas bag he leers over at the helpless\nman. The grin leaves his face as he realizes it is time to decide Superman\u2019s\nfate and begins to ponder.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">Despite all\nmy bravado of the past quarter hour I cannot risk selling Superman to anyone\nfor any price. If he ever managed to escape captivity, he\u2019d be sure to look me\nup. Nor do I stand a chance of obtaining Kryptonian technology. Superman is a\nman Scout and would never willing share it with me; and I don\u2019t have the time\nto beat it out him. The longer I allow him to live the greater the risk I take.\nI\u2019m taking a big risk by keeping the broomstick. No one aside from my nephew\nBart can ever know I destroyed Superman.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">Killing Superman\nwill be easy now that I have him where I want him. I merely leave him right\nhere with the Kryptonite. I can stop back in a few weeks to make sure Superman\nsuccumbed to the Kryptonite radiation. Then I\u2019d simply leave the dead carcass\ndown here and fill in the shaft to the surface using a steady stream of\nconcrete trucks. The Man of Steel will be entombed down here forever. My\ninstincts tell me to walk away now and leave Superman to die.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">But if I\ndivert a tiny bit from the original plan it would allow me to go forward with a\nnew and exciting project. A couple more days of life for Superman would allow\nme to collect priceless and irreplaceable samples. I\u2019ve been toying with an\nidea but had all but dismissed it as improbable, thus I did not bring the\nequipment necessary to gather the samples. Now that I\u2019ve had the opportunity to\nexamine Superman ever so closely my interest in cloning a Superman has been\nrekindled. I would need sperm, hair and blood samples; Superman might still be\nbullet proof even in a comatose state but I image Kryptonite fashioned into a\nshard would allow me to draw blood and cut hair; collecting the sperm won\u2019t be\nat all difficult thinks Dumont as a smile crosses his face.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">\u201cImagine! A\nsmall army of Superman\u2019s cloned from the original Superman. An army of Superman\u2019s\nall loyal to me and minus his man Scout tendencies. I would be unstoppable. I\ncould rule the world or at least a large chunk of it! It will take years to\naccomplish and success is not guaranteed by any means but the samples are\nobviously essential to even try. \u2026Hum? I could send Bart back here tomorrow and\ncamp out upstairs for a few days while he collects what I need. I have much to\ndo work to do to get this project going and I don\u2019t want to waste time baby\nsitting Superman while I collect the necessary ingredients. Heck Bart will\nenjoy tormenting that muscle bound kid as he gathers the samples. With the\nKryptonite back in the lead container Superman\u2019s bodily functions should return\nto normal, including sperm production. He will be conscious but powerless and\nwill remain that way as long as I deny him sunlight!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">\u201cWhen Bart\nfinishes his collections, I\u2019ll have him pull the plug so speak on Superman,\u201d\nsays Dumont coldly as he quickly gathers up all five fragments of Kryptonite\nand places them in the lead box in the anteroom and secures the cover back onto\nthe box. Immediately the green hue vanishes and Superman\u2019s mind-numbing pain\nsubsides and the naked man visibly relaxes and un-stiffens in sudden relief on\nthe floor. His eyes blink several times and his mouth closes as his breathing\nbecomes less labored and returns to a normal rhythm.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">Dumont walks\npast the naked man and retrieves the shackles.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;\n<\/span>He returns and begins to restrain Superman in the collar and shackles. Superman\u2019s\nmind begins to clear ever so slowly and he is vaguely aware of what\u2019s happening\nas he feels the cold steel collar locked again around his neck and his arms are\ntightly drawn together behind his back and his wrists are shackled tightly in\nplace. He vaguely comprehends a mocking voice saying, \u201cGood Morning sleepy\nhead.\u201d Moments later Superman senses the cold steel of the shackles locking his\nankles tightly together but is yet unable to protest or offer even token\nresistance.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">Several\nminutes later, the Kryptonite encased in lead, Superman\u2019s head finally clears\nand he is able to begin to collect his thoughts. He snaps completely out of his\nvegetative daze as he hears the blast door descend. The large door slams shut\nwith a bang as blooms of compressed air vent and slowly dissipates and silence\nreturns to the underground vault.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">Superman is\nfully awake now and realizes to his horror that he is wearing a steel collar\naround his neck and his wrists are shackled tightly together behind his back\nand attached to the collar with a length of chain. To make matters worse his\nankles are shackled tight together and slightly draw back towards his back by a\nshort length of steel chain attached to the wrist shackles to prevent him from\nstanding upright\u2026 and worse yet he is completely naked!<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">He twists\ntightly restrained in the shackles, his chest and legs rubbing the dirty\nconcrete, as he tries with all his might to break free. Superman then remembers\nall too well the cruel teenager with the strange fragments he called Kryptonite\nthat rendered him weak and helpless.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">He squirms\nand twists naked in the tight steel restraints as he awkwardly maneuvers his\nhead to look around the room and determines it is the same room with the lead\narch and blast door. The Kryptonite is gone but so is his strength and costume\ntoo! What have they done to me thinks Superman in terror?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">He panics\nand twists and bucks wildly trying to break the steel chains only to be\nreminded that he has been somehow stripped of his super strength. Superman\ncranes his head around inspecting his naked body that is completely filthy with\nsweat and dirt. Who stripped me naked? Where is my costume? Why can\u2019t I break\nthese chains? Why am I naked? Will I ever get my superpowers back? What are\nthey going to do to me?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">These\nquestions and many others race through Superman\u2019s mind as it begins to finally\nset in that the mighty Superman has been completely trounced\u2026 and by a kid with\na green rock. I should have been more careful and not been so arrogant thinks Superman\nas his arm, chest and leg muscles flex and strain as he again futilely struggles\nto break the steel shackles.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\">\u201cI should\nbe able to snap these chains light as a pretzel,\u201d screams an exasperated Man of\nSteel.
